EndNote

A basic guide to help users get started with EndNote

Setting Preferences

You can use EndNote Preferences to customise features of your EndNote Library.

This feature can be found under Edit - Preferences in your EN library.

On a Mac select Preferences from the EndNote menu to the left of the File menu.

Change Case

EndNote styles can be configured to change the capitalisation of author names or titles. Use the Change Case preferences to list the words that should not be modified when EndNote changes the case of titles or authors. This feature can be used for special acronyms, equations, proper nouns or words that require to be displayed in a particular way.

Display Fields

Use the Display Fields preferences to choose which fields to display in EndNote’s Library window. These settings apply to all libraries opened on the computer.

Select the desired field from each Field list. You may select up to 10 fields to be displayed in the Library window. To show fewer than 10 fields, select  [Do not display]  instead of a field name.

Display Font

This feature allows you to change the size of the font in your EndNote Library.

Duplicates

By default, EndNote identifies duplicate references in a library as references of the same reference type with matching Author, Year, and Title fields. You can select to be more specific or less specific in searching for duplicates. To select the fields that EndNote should compare when finding duplicate references, click in the check boxes to the left of the field names.

Set the Criteria to have EndNote compare the fields and look for an exact match or be less specific in the comparison and ignore spacing and punctuation.
